This Week at Rotary - VideoRay - Oct 16th

VideoRay, a global leader in underwater remotely operated vehicles (ROV) technology is a thriving organization, headquartered right here in Pottstown.  They were even recently awarded a 93M US Navy Maritime Expeditionary Standoff Response (MESR) Production Contract for Mission Specialist Technology.  We are invited to visit the VideoRay facilities, located right on High St., learn about the operations and their continued commitment to Pottstown.

Parking is available at the lot behind VideoRay, as well as available street parking and nearby municipal lot parking.  If parking on the street or in the nearby lots, please be sure to download the Parkmobile app for quick and easy meter payment.

Upcoming Meeting - Oct 23rd - Genealogy with Kristine Parkes

Join us for an educational evening as Kristine Parkes, the better half of the Parkes duo, shares with us about the process of geneology.

Kristine became interested in geneology from her maternal grandmother who lost touch with parts of her family and shared her experience researching and trying to reconnect with family members.

Kristine has more 20 years’ experience researching family histories and has traveled up and down the east coast, as well as to Germany, searching for family history in archives, libraries, historical societies, and cemeteries.

This is sure to be an interesting evening about discovery and connection.

Upcoming Event - Nov 9th - Bowling for a Cause
Get Classic Bowling - CTL MStore - Microsoft Store

Pottstown Rotary Club's 8th Annual Bowling for a Cause event is coming up quick - Saturday, November 9, at Jay Lanes.  Like last year, there will be two sessions: 5:30-7:30 p.m. and 8:00-10:00 p.m.  We are once again promoting the earlier time slot as more family friendly - this worked out really well last year!

Pricing is as follows:
  • $130/lane, no sponsorship
  • $190/lane, plus sponsorship

This year, this event will support  Pottstown Fourth of July Parade.  The money we raise will go towards the parade to cover the cost of participants and fees for the day.

As per the attached flyer, in addition to bowling we will also have 50/50 drawing, raffle baskets, silent auctions, and a wine grab (later time slot only!).  We will have 10 bottles of wine in bags and attendees 21+ can select any bag they want for a $25 donation, and can collect their bags at the end of the night!

How can you help? We are looking for participants for both sessions, lane sponsors, raffle basket donations, silent auction items, 2 small lottery board donations, wine and volunteers to help the day of. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated!

Please feel free to contact Angela Dement (215-223-7384) or Tammy Vontor (610-246-0702) with any questions, donations, registrations, etc.

Community Needs
Community Needs

From time to time our fellow Rotarians find causes that are near and dear to their hearts and have a great impact on the community that require some giving of items or funds.  This section will house all of those things, from ongoing items to ones for a specific time frame.
  • The Period Project with the Tri-County YWCA is ongoing. School has started again, and with it, the continuing need to provide feminine hygiene products for girls in Pottstown and the Pottsgroves. Girls who have to miss school because they cannot afford period products lose up to a week each month. Please consider making a monetary or in kind donation. Please reach out to Patti Derr if you have questions, and thank you for supporting equity in education.  Patti Derr at 610-850-4737 or pnderr343@gmail.com. Thank you for your generosity.
  • St. Paul's Diaper Bank is located at 927 N. Franklin St in Pottstown and it provides free diapers, wipes and other essentials to low income families in Pottstown. The Diaper Bank is open every Wednesday from 10am-12pm. We are seeing a dramatic increase in the number of families we serve each week and welcome donations of unopened childrens' diapers and pull-ups in any and every size, as well as wipes. We are the only Diaper Bank of its kind for the Pottstown community and we would like to expand our hours in order to help more families, but we can only do that with donations and community support.

If you would like your cause included in this section please email the details to Richard Gray by noon on the Friday previous to the bulletin you would like it included in.  Include if it is ongoing, dates, brief description, contact info, website for additional info(if applicable), whatever you want included in the post.
