This week at Rotary - guest speaker Dr. Verghese

Dr. Verghese is the Principal Investigator and Medical Director  of Keystone Clinical Studies in Plymouth Meeting. He and his team conduct clinical studies on behalf of the NIH, universities, and sponsoring pharmaceutical companies for Alzheimer’s Disease and Mild Cognitive diseases, as well as depression, schizophrenia, and tardive dyskinesia.
Dr. Verghese will talk with us about the newest findings for the Alzheimer’s,  the ubiquitous nature of Mild Cognitive Disease, as well as the specific clinical studies he is working on. He will also speak of the value and service by individual patients participating in clinical studies, in some studies regardless of whether the individual has been diagnosed with certain conditions or not. This is certain to be of interest to all with aging parents, friends, and relatives, as well as all club members.
As a special note, Dr. Verghese led the Rotary Rotaract Club at Grant Medical College in Bombay, India, while he was attending Medical School. We’ll bring him back later in the year to tell us about those experiences!

Please note - we are planning to continue with a hybrid meeting format.  For hybrid meetings we are aiming for a minimum of 20 in-person attendees in order to support the meeting logistics.  For those comfortable to attend in person, masking and social distancing rules will be followed although relaxed if you are vaccinated.  Registration is required for in-person attendance so that we can plan meals. Register here if you have not done so.

For those who wish to see the presentation from a Zoom meeting, your login information is below:

Superbowl Pool 2022

Pottstown Rotary Superbowl Pool

The 56th Superbowl is complete - and I don't know anyone who could have picked the scores correctly.

No one had bought the last two remaining blocks and so the Club had to - and #93 was the winning block at the end of the first quarter.

Congratulations to Jen Isett, winner of the 3rd Quarter block and Double congrats to Werner Koller who had the winning block for the 2nd Quarter and Final Score.

Once again - Thank you to everyone who participated in our Superbowl Pool! Your donations will allow the club to do something really good for our community.

Winners will be contacted early this week.

Prizes:
1st Quarter - $300
2nd Quarter - $300
3rd Quarter - $300
Final - $400

New member application - Laura Cohn
We've received and the board of directors has approved a new member application from Laura Cohn.

Laura lives here in Pottstown and is the Accessibility Advocate at "Suddenly I See",  a company that helps educate the community about how to support those with blindness.

Laura has a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology, is active in the local theater community, has artwork exhibited at the Philadelphia Art Museum and enjoys working with local young musicians.

As you see, she has many varied interests and is certainly someone you should take time to talk to.  Welcome her at one of our upcoming meetings and introduce yourself.

She is being sponsored by Nicole Matz.  This is the second posting of her application.

Student Exchange program is alive

Norah Turley, our outbound exchange student, found out that she was assigned to go to Finland.
She is currently a student at Owens J. Roberts High School and is one of seven outbound students in District 7340.
Interviews were late last year and they will leave for their respective countries in August or September.
If you are at the District Conference in Hershey this April, perhaps you will get to see them as they will be there for orientation.
