Habitat's annual Rock the Block event takes place in their three Neighborhood Revitalization Zones: Upper Darby, Pottstown, and Norristown.
With our project, we will be doing a tree planting and site clean-up in the Edgewood Cemetery, a historic cemetery near downtown Pottstown.
Edgewood Cemetery is currently under the care of community groups and functions more as a park and walk and run area. This is a very visible and highly used area that needs love and attention to honor both the new and former residents of the Pottstown Community. The scope of work includes siting (following a design plan) the new trees first with markers, then installing the container trees in the designated places. We will also do spring clean-up with the landscape plant beds located at the entrances to the cemetery area. Volunteers will need to dress comfortable as we will be digging holes and working outdoors in a bright, open area. We recommend volunteers wear clothing in layers and wear work/hiking boots or sneakers. Our affiliate office is also working to improve our use of plastics and strongly encourage volunteers to bring their own re-fillable water bottles. We will provide the bulk water in 5-gallon jugs for re-filling.
